Shared Living isn’t just a growing trend, it’s fast becoming the housing choice of thousands across the UK. Our The State of Shared Living 2025 reveals just how strong the demand really is, and which cities are leading the way.
Across Great Britain, 10.4% of all shared living opportunities currently on the rental market have already been taken. In other words, more than one in ten shared homes are snapped up almost as soon as they’re listed.
Cardiff takes the top spot
Cardiff might not be the first place that comes to mind when we talk about housing demand, however, 16.9% of listings are already let. The Welsh capital tops the table, proving that Shared Living isn’t just a London phenomenon, it’s resonating in vibrant regional hubs too.
London follows with 13.1%, while Brighton and Bristol also show exceptionally high demand. Cities like Bradford and Liverpool are close behind, both comfortably above the national average.
Even in markets where overall rents are slightly lower, Shared Living is still proving popular. Such as Newcastle, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Birmingham which round out Britain’s top 10.
Why are so many people choosing Shared Living?
Our CEO and founder, Vann Vogstad, explains:
“It’s no surprise that shared living demand is at its highest in the likes of London, Brighton, and Bristol. These cities are home to some of Britain’s most expensive rental markets which means lots of tenants are searching for a more cost effective way of finding a great home in a prime location.
But shared living is about so much more than saving money. In a society where feelings of isolation and loneliness are so rife, shared living brings the promise of community and friendship, especially for those who are moving to a new city and are hungry for human connection.”
More than just numbers
The figures show a clear truth: Shared Living is not only popular, it’s essential. From Cardiff to London and beyond, tenants are actively choosing homes that give them affordability, flexibility, and – perhaps most importantly – community.
And as demand grows, so too does the opportunity. Shared Living can help tackle affordability pressures while creating stronger, more connected cities.
